what's going around?

This year has been filled with illnesses.

Caleb, Jacob and Sydni have all recently been sick. Caleb gets asthma/bronchitis easily so he has seen his share this year.

Jacob has had this cough for a while now and just had to have an x-ray (which thankfully came back normal). It was tough on him because he couldn't eat for 12 hours. Diane and I took him to his appointment and the doctor's office (in their infinite wisdom) had a vending machine (who in their right mind puts a vending machine in an office where the majority of their patients have to fast before going there and having to wait forever for their appointment???). Poor thing really wanted to play with the maching and he said he was hungry but he wasn't going to eat anything -- he just wanted to hold it.

Sydni has been running fever off and on now for a while but the doctor gave her a clean bill of health. I guess it doesn't help that their school has been plagued with all sorts of viruses going around. And Sydni really wants a perfect attendance award this time around so she's really trying not to get sick (at least she'll get it in Girl Scouts -- fingers crossed).

Easter weekend

This year we had a quiet relaxing Easter weekend. Mommy had to work and Sydni was sick so it was pretty laid back. Since Mommy worked, the Easter goodies came early as she gave them filled Easter baskets on Saturday.

I had some baskets filled for the kids for Easter morning and they were thrilled when they woke up bright and early at 6:30 AM -- Jacob said "wait a minute -- the Easter bunny came!" and Caleb said "the Easter bunny came Auntie D; you didn't have to do it!" and Sydni lastly said (at least in a whisper) "I know you did it Dede, I know you're the Easter bunny!" (my mistake came when I gave them some of the same treats I gave Sydni's Girl Scout troop the previous Sunday.)

For the past two years, I have made a bunny shirt complete with fluffy tail to wear on Easter Sunday. Sydni called me early last week to see if I was still going to be the Easter bunny for them; she asked if I still had my costume and when I told her I didn't, she offered to make it for me. Sydni made great ears -- but since the Easter bunny came with the baskets, I didn't need to wear the outfit.

The rest of the day was spent painting eggs, blowing bubbles, cracking cascarones, an Easter egg hunt, great lunch prepared by Granny Gran and watching
It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown as well as Here Comes Peter Cotton Tail the Movie.

Pics to come soon....

favorite pics.....

Here are some current pictures spanning back to May of last year -- since our old website went a year without pics I thought I'd add some from here to stay up to date:

Bluebonnets (April 2006)

Christmas 2005 (I love taking pictures of the kids in their Santa hats) (December 2005)

Sydni joined Girl Scouts this year. She is a proud little "Daisy". I am happy to be her troop leader. Here she is with Mommy at her Investiture Ceremony. (December 2005)

Caleb asked for this "big red" car for so long -- he even had a coffee can with a sign on it to show he was saving for the "big red" car. Anytime we said we had something for them, he would ask if it was the "big red" car. He just knew he was going to get it -- and sure enough, Po-Po bought it for them. He couldn't wait for Christmas so they got this in early November. It is a great little car -- it's got a working radio, headlights, ignition, turn signals. It's a good little car. (November 2005)

Unfortunately, I was in NYC for Halloween so I didn't get to spend it with the kids this year -- very traumatic for me. And things have been so busy that we weren't able to have our annual Halloween party this year with their cousins. (October 2005)

Jacob and Caleb went as Power Rangers -- Sydni went as a bride.

As is the tradition, we went to the pumpkin patch this fall -- we've gone to this same one for a few years now and love it. They kids got to paint pumpkins, have a hay ride and generally have a good time. They were joined by some of their cousins and Sydni's new Girl Scout troop. (September 2005)

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Jacob played T-ball last year while Caleb and Sydni played soccer; well, Sydni didn't actually play -- she sat on my lap most of the time. Caleb enjoyed it -- and they both enjoyed the tophies they got. Jacob liked t-ball -- but he really hated it when someone else got the ball if he was going after it. It was a good time for lessons in sportsmanlike conduct. Jacob is playing soccer this year because he really liked the trophies Sydni and Caleb got -- just found out that he doesn't get a trophy but rather a medal. Oi vey. (September 2005)

2005 was the year of lost teeth. Sydni lost her first tooth in May; Jacob followed one month to the date in June; and caleb lost his first tooth in September. They made out pretty good from the tooth fairy that it came as a shock to them that she didn't always leave that much for every tooth. (May, June, September 2005)

Jacob, Caleb and Sydni celebrated their 5th birthday in 2005. Jacob had a SpongeBob SquarePants party and Caleb had a Power Rangers party; although both wanted to be Power Rangers on the invite/poster. They were so excited when they saw the poster that they thought they would actually get to be up on the big screen. They had their party at the local movie theatre and had a double feature of both SpongeBob and Power Rangers movies. (August 2005)

Sydni had a tea party for her 5th birthday celebration. It was really nice. Sydni and her friends dressed up, had a semi-formal tea, played games and everyone had fun. She wants to have tea parties all the time now. (August 2005)

Sydni is the first of the three kids to break a limb. Caleb was practicing his kicking abilities when Sydni happened to pass by him at just the right (or wrong) time. She fell down and was in pain but none more than usual; it wasn't until later that night when I got home to spend the night with them that I noticed she kept crying (or whimpering) in her sleep. I picked her up and held her for a while and then told Granny Gran that I was taking her to the ER. We were there for quite a while and they didn't find anything broken -- but then they called Monday morning after reviewing the x-rays and found that she did have a broken arm. She was a trooper and did great at keeping her arm elevated and dry. The only hard part was not being able to play with her friends. (August 2005)

Caleb, Sydni and Jacob started Kindergarten in 2005. They loved going to the "big" school. I was worried that they wouldn't adjust well to being apart but they are doing great being in separate rooms. It is so hard to hear what they go through with other kids -- even at this age kids are unbelievable with cliques, language, etc. -- but they are also making great friends and thriving. It is so great to listen to them read books. (August 2005)

We went to S. Padre Island in the summer of 2005 to attend cousin Rosalyn and Steven's wedding. The wedding was beautiful and it provided us a great little vacation. This is the first me and Granny Gran had been with the kids to the beach. We all had a blast. Caleb and Jacob were boogy-boarding like pros by the time we left and Sydni was a bathing beauty. We're hoping to make this trip a yearly tradition (July 2005)

We all went to Sea World in July 2005. This is the second time that we've "Dined with Shaum". The kids love it. I love that we get so close to Shamu. Jacob was able to feed the dolphins on this trip too. (July 2005)

We had a bar-b-que with the cousins for Fourth of July. Everyone came over to the kids house for fun on the water slide and we even had an old-fashioned parade down the street. The kids LOVED that part of the day. They even included a photo in the local paper. (July 2005)

By far, the best toy of the summer was this Bounce Round water slide that Granny Gran bought the kids this summer. It was supposed to be for their birthday but they couldn't wait. We had fun all summer long with this. (June 2005)

soccer...

Caleb, Jacob and Sydni started Soccer with the YMCA last month. This is Caleb and Sydni's second year playing and Jacob's first year (he played t-ball last year).

They are doing good -- it's been a bit cold for them with their games in the morning but they are adjusting. There are enough kids on the team this year that they don't have to play the entire time; which is good as that is an awful lot of running.

Sydni was happy to have named the team: the purple tigers

big kids rooms.....

Late last year I re-did the kids rooms for them (part of a Christmas present for them). Aunt Tina and Granny Gran helped me paint the rooms. Caleb and Jacob's room had been pastel colored so we were eager to paint it to their liking. Red and blue are their colors so we used both of those for the boys. Power Rangers are it for the boys so I painted these images on the wall for them. They love it.
Sydni is all about princesses. Her room is all pink (and a bit purple) and I painted the Disney Princesses on a wall for her -- her room still needs a bit more to be complete; she is waiting for me to paint a castle on the wall.
Last month I added a chalkboard section to the inside of their closet doors. Those are very cute and useful. Caleb and Jacob have a race car theme (they are ready to have their room redone in the Hot Wheels theme but I told them they would have those Power Rangers on the walls until they turned 18). Sydni has a garden theme on the wall (I had intended to just do a rectangle and be done with it but I dripped some paint on the door and had to "cover" it up.)

pride of pasemann...

Yeah, Caleb was name the Pride of Pasemann for his class this week. All three have been named that for their classes this year but this is Caleb's second time. Way to go!!!

Earlier this year, Sydni was given the Principal's Award for her class. Jacob was given the Writing Award for his class. Caleb was given the Reading Award for his class.

All three have been given Classy Conduct awards and perfect attendance (at separate times).

This has been a tough year with illnesses (especially for Caleb and Jacob) so their attendance hasn't been perfect but they are trying.

and we're off.......

I've decided to start a blog for the kids instead of trying to update their website. I'll link to the website though in case anyone wants to look up old photos/posts.

Once I started scrapbooking again, I realized that I was dependent on their website for dates and details of events. I'm going to have to make time to update this blog so that I can have an accurate record when I need it.

I'll be posting some recent pictures this weekend.

Enjoy!

2005 in Pictures

Here are pictures from 2005. Enjoy!

Riding the Elephants
We took the kids to an Indian festival in Austin and had a chance to ride the elephants. Everyone was so excited!

Lost Tooth
Sydni lost her first tooth on May 5, 2005

Picking Strawberries
We ventured to Lexington to pick strawberries and potatoes.

Bike Rides
One of the kids favorite things to do is ride bikes. Sydni's bike was too difficult to ride so the kids had to take turns. Jacob encountered a little problem with his wheel but fixed it himself.

Shamu Express
We took the kids to Sea World during spring break. Their favorite ride is the roller coaster Shamu Express.

Yum Yum
The kids had their very first taste of Frozen Hot Chocolate on Valentines Day. Auntie D brought a few packets home from New York and they LOVED it!!!

2004 Kid Updates

May 2004

May 16, 2004 We went to Sydni's first dance recital with Miss Yolanda's class yesterday. She was absolutely wonderful! There were about seven girls who danced on stage with Sydni and her group. One thing Sydni wanted to make sure of the entire time she was dancing was that we were watching her. When she first went on stage, she turned her neck to see us and kept looking and smiling at us that I thought she was going to fall off the stage. Thank goodness we were in the front row. Sydni and the other girls did a great performance. Now Syndi is looking forward to continuing her dance classes because she gets to incorporate tap in this next session. The Mother's Day Out program that the kids are in had their end of school reception on Thursday. The kids class and another class performed three songs. Jacob and Caleb sang their little hearts out -- Jacob also hollered "Auntie D" a few times to make sure she was looking at him. Sydni had a little stage fright and wouldn't sing. Unless she sees us in the audience, she will not perform.  Jacob is the last of the kids to be potty trained. PoPo bought him "Hulk" underwear and those are the only kind he would agree to wear. Once he put those on, he was a natural. None of them are "completely" potty trained but we are working on it. They all go to the potty during the day, but it is the night that we are still having problems with for Sydni and Caleb. Jacob doesn't get wet during the night but he doesn't like to "sit" on the pot so that also causes a problem at certain times!  Update from last month: The kids had a good Easter this year. They participated in four Easter egg hunts this year: Mother's Day Out; PoPo's work sponsored hunt; City sponsored hunt; inside the house hunt on Easter Sunday. The weather was awful on Easter -- it was cold and rainy. Cousin Colleen and Counsin Yo-Yo came over with their families and Uncle Johnny and Aunt Janie too. We had a good time with them -- the kids really enjoyed each other's company. We had our hunt in doors and went outside to quickly crack cascarones on each other's heads.

Granny Gran and Auntie D took the kids to the Botanical Gardens to see the beautiful flowers and the butterfly garden. They were so excited to see the butterflies. Just as we were getting to that part of the gardens, Jacob and Sydni slipped on the pebbles and fell down. It so traumatized Jacob that he still tells people that he fell down at the butterfly garden.  Cousin Holly got married in Wharton on April 4 so Granny Gran, Mommy and Auntie D packed up the kids and went to the wedding. The kids had so much fun. Sydni was so enamored of the wedding dress and the bridesmaids dresses that she told Auntie D that she wanted to marry her and they could both wear white dresses. The next day when we went to church at the same chapel, Sydni got upset because we had forgotten to get our wedding dresses and we couldn't get married. She also remembers this as our "new church" and distinctly remembers that a young girl sitting behind us had on pink lipstick on one lip and red lipstick on the other lip. She refuses to think that is not normal!

Sydni has a new name: Sydni Denise Granny Gran Katty Mommy Denise Biedo (she can't pronounce our last name) Blomquist.

March 2004

March 13, 2004

All the kids seem to be fine now (keep your fingers crossed)! They are on spring break from Mother's Day Out this week so we hope to take them to some fun spots nearby. On February 28 the kids Mother's Day Out School had a fundraiser where the kids could take Antique style photos. We had been wanting to do this for a while so we were very excited. Sydni and Caleb were excited once they saw the outfits they would be putting on. Jacob threw a tantrum saying he didn't want to take off his shoes, his shirt, his socks, he didn't want to put on a hat and he didn't want to take pictures. When it was their turn for the photos, he started crying. The photographer was absolutely wonderful with him. He let him play with a baseball, bat and glove and Jacob ended up doing perfectly -- as did all of them. We were so happy with the outcome -- we went overboard because they were so cute. In the photos, they all have their favorites: Caleb loves cameras and talking on the phone; Jacob loves baseball -- any kind of sports really; and Sydni loves playing with teasets. On Thursday, March 11, Jacob was coming back into his classroom from recess and he picked up a rock from the playground. He proceeded to stick the rock up his nose. He walked up to his teacher and told her that his nose hurt and he had put a rock in it -- Luckily there was a teacher there who was able to work it out of his nose. They sent the rock home with Granny Gran and it is going in his scrapbook. How did we know Jacob would be the first of all of them to do such a thing!

February 2004

February 29, 2004

In late January/early February, two friends of the kids from Mother's Day Out came down with RSV. We were hoping we'd get lucky and they wouldn't get sick but lo and behold Caleb and Sydni came down with bronchitis. About a week later they were still sick and Jacob came down with rotavirus, a stomach virus. Just when we thought they were all getting over everything, Caleb also came down with rotavirus. Caleb was sick for about three weeks altogether. We thought he might have to go into the hospital but he pulled through. They were well for about a week and a half and now Jacob and Caleb are both coming down with what seems to be bronchitis again.

On Saturday night we took the kids to get their pictures taken in the Antique style -- this was through a fundraiser at their school. We were so excited because the photos they showed us were so cute. Caleb and Sydni liked the clothes they put on them and were excited to take pictures. Jacob threw a fit when he had to take off his shirt (he was supposed to be in overalls and no shirt). He refused to put on any of the clothes, take off his shoes, put on a hat -- he just cried and said I don't want to take a picture. The gentleman who was taking the pictures was absolutely fabulous with him. He got him to sit, put on a hat and smile for the camera. When the photos were finished, Jacob wanted to go back and take some more. He was unbelievable. We can't wait for them to come back so we can share them here. Sydni is now writing words. Some of the words she can write are: SYDNI, CAT, STOP, GO, GIRL, BOY. She is doing great learning her words. Jacob isn't writing yet but he can spell a few words on his own and he is sounding out all his letters. He'll just all of a sudden say A says ahhhh. U is for up. Caleb also isn't writing yet but he can spell quite a few words. He was the first one to spell all three of their names. He is also very good at getting from the beginning to the end in mazes in his activity books.

2004 in Pictures

Santa's Helpers
The kids look adorable in their santa hats.

Santa Baby
The kids went to visit Santa at our local Heritage Square.

Merry Christmas
This is the picture we took for family Christmas cards (one version).

Christmas Pageant
Sydni was an angel and Caleb and Jacob were shepherds at the annual Mother's Day Out Christmas pageant. It was hard to get good pictures of the kids -- reindeer were in front of the kids and the Moms with cameras are brutal. Jacob was a little upset because he wanted to sit in the audience with us so he didn't perform very much.

Happy Fourth Birthday
The kids celebrated their Fourth birthday as the Hulk (Jacob), Princess Aurora (Sydni) and Spiderman (Caleb) at a party with family.

Birthday Goofballs
Sydni, Caleb & Jacob are proud to be four and show it with their funny faces at our celebration at Chuck E. Cheese.

Sea World
We've gotten season passes to Sea World every year since the kids were two and they absolutely look forward to going there every year.

First Carnival
We took the kids to their first carnival for TIF days. Don't they look like they had fun.

Fourth of July
Jacob, Sydni and Caleb in their "Future President" tees before heading out to view the fireworks. The t-shirts are from Auntie D's trip to Washington, DC.

Jacob, Sydni and Caleb loved playing in their pool all summer long. They are definite water babies.

Our Little Ballerina
Sydni had an amazing performance at her first official ballet recital!
